Dude.

Has it really been almost 5 months since I last blogged??  Blogger must be lying to me.  There's no way time has flown that quickly.  Well, let's see.... hmm, anything new going on... not much, got my 3rd Kindle (first two broke, not my fault), it's been a really warm winter...my iphone shattered (again, not my fault), my worm bin is doing great things... OH!  AND WE HAD A BABY!  I almost forgot, mostly because she doesn't scream all day and sleeps practically all night.  Truly, she is the cutest happiest baby on the block - as long as I don't eat any dairy.  Here's the story:

2 days shy of 41 weeks I was induced.  Water broke at 7am, contractions kicked into high gear around noon, about 4 hours later and 3 measly little pushes she was born.  The nurse actually wrote "spontaneous birth" because, really, I hardly did anything.  I was updating Facebook while in labor and buying junk online.  I'm so 21st century it hurts.

9lbs 7oz and 21.25 in

1 day old

Mary came and stayed with us for a week and man, oh, man, what I wouldn't do to hire her on permanently.  Surprisingly, we are all doing really well adjusting to a family of 5.  Sure, the kids are squished 3 across the back in the car and usually end up in a slap fight... or Avie's head being used a snack cup holder.  We kept Jack out of school this semester mainly because the thought of having to be up and out of the house before noon TERRIFIED me.  Eamon still goes to school with Mommy for special one-on-one time.  It's a good thing he's cute... or else he'd end up strung up on a tree somewhere.

He is in love with "Baby Appy"

Things keep trucking along at the Raines household.  The boys eat (or don't eat, depending on the day) copious amounts of food and keep growing and growing.  Jack is a freak of nature and now wears size 5/6 clothes.  He's so verbal and smart.  People absolutely cannot believe it when I tell them that he's only 3.  Well, 4 now!!  Yesterday was his birthday.  Matt took him out to lunch for some special Daddy time and we had an impromptu birthday playdate at the park with his friends.  He's taking an immersion spanish class on Monday's now so now he can understand Dora and Diego on a deeper, more personal level.

Avelynn Lorraine (middle name is named after my father's mother) is now close to 12lbs and crazy tall.  She had a bout with some reflux like Eamon did but I've mostly got it under control with my diet and herbals for both her and I.  Her favorite place to be is the changing table because she gets to see her very best friend in the whole wide world - the fan.  At 7.5 weeks she is smiling and starting to coo.  Anytime she makes a noise Jack asks me "Is she calling for me??"  To which I always answer "Yes!"  The boys ADORE her.  I do have to protect her from them... from them squishing her by hugging her too hard and turning her face to look at them.  They like to be no further than 2 inches away from her face at all times.  Thus, she's already had her first cold.  She is an amazing sleeper.  The girl puts herself to sleep around 7:30pm and sleeps until 3-4AM.  That's 8 hours!  And she's been doing that for weeks!!  She is the perfect addition to our family and I can't imagine our life without her now that she's here.  She loves being held and I love carrying her around in my sling.  We get so many compliments on it.  *ahem Mother's Day gift, Matt cough*

Everyone always asks: which is harder? going from 1 kid to 2 or 2 kids to 1?  Honestly, going from 1 to 2 was waaaaaaay harder for me.  Then again, she's a pretty chill baby.  Maybe I'm just more experienced?  Or maybe I'm just more chilled???  Who's to say but I can say from the bottom of my heart, after the kids have gone to bed and it's just me, my beer and the TV (Matt's usually working out at the gym - GO MATT!) .. I think to myself  "Wow, today totally didn't ALL suck!"    heh

I think The Roots said it best on Yo Gabba Gabba:  Lovely Lovely love my family

sometimes when i am sitting by myself those quiet moments when im with no one else.
im mesmerized by all the many good things in my life
i think about the time when i was younger and the older that i get the more that i feel wiser all the love
from friends and family get stronger and it carries me on through
