Millions of peaches, peaches for me

During beach week, my mother-in-law brought some peaches from her home town, Fort Mill, SC. They were some of the best peaches I've ever had. So like any sane person would do, I demanded that we buy as many peaches as we could before we left the state. How many, you ask? Ohhh, a half bushel.

What to do with 25lbs of peaches? Why, make preserves, of course!  My friend Carly and I decided to take the plunge and try our hand at canning.  She had the hardware, I had the software, it was a perfect match.  We spent about 4 hours through the whole process and it was really a lot of fun.  I'm excited about future canning!!  Did I really just say that? With exclamation points even??

Head on over to her adorable blog The Hale Family and read about our canning playdate.  I have yet to try the preserves, but I hear they are amazing.  Looking forward to breakfast tomorrow.  I know you're jealous.

I'm not sure if you realize just how many peaches are in 25 lbs. A whole heck of a lot.

Some other things I did with the peaches are: give one to every kid I know, eat a bunch myself, give tons to Eamon (fun diapers there), make 2 batches of homemade peach & almond ice cream, make a peach and blueberry cobbler, peach bellinis for girls game night, and, last but not least, chopped and froze the last remaining cup for future smoothies.  Phew!  Next time I want to buy 25 lbs of any fruit, please someone smack me.

PS - I'm thinking of starting up a food blog with some of my mommy friends as a way to post our recipes.  Keep an eye out for that!!

Bumps and Bruises

My poor little man. He may look like Mini-Matt, but Eamon definitely has his mama's sense of balance, which is to say, absolutely none. Although he's walking he still falls A LOT, especially when he's tired. This past week he's received 2 bruises, 1 black eye and a 2 bloody lips.

Earliest bruise right in the middle of his forehead.  Went face first into the TV stand.  Now healing

Bloody lip from falling into a chair this morning.

Here you can see his black eye (left) that he got from falling into the glider.

Better picture of his eye.  It's healing

I know you can't see it very well, but here his other eye (right) is also bruised from falling into a coffee table at my friend's house.  Still cute, though!

Seriously thinking about buying one of these.  Thudguard

Baby Godzilla!

My friends, the inevitable has happened.  At the beach house, Eamon started walking.  Now that we're home and he gets lots of practice, walking is all he does.  He can walk from one end of the house to the other and is now learning how to turn.  He still falls a lot, but mostly refuses to crawl anymore.  I tried to tell him that walking at 10 months is really more bad than good (due to all the injuries) but of course he wouldn't listen.  I have yet to go out of the house with both kids walking.  This is the beginning of the end for me.  I will become a hermit.

Eamon is growing by leaps and bounds.  His favorite toys are balls and anything he can push/pull.  He even made his first sign at the beach!  BALL!  He makes the sign and says, "bah bah."  Another gifted and talented baby as Mimi would say!

Eamon is now a pointing fool.  He sees things he wants, like your cup in particular, points at it, walks towards it and says "THAT."  Pepin the Cat is his new best friend.  He likes to pull his tail and fall down on him - hence Baby Godzilla.  Here's a video of him pointing to the cat.

From 2010_07

Just like his big brother, Eamon is especially adept at climbing.  He uses his little sticky feet to walk up the slide.  Here he is and he's so proud of himself!  I took the slide away.  I know, I'm a bad mommy but it's for his own good.  He keeps falling off the platform!

All my pictures of him are all blurry now because he's always moving!

Trick the cat into thinking you're going to pet him... and then grab some fur and pull as hard as you can!!

Baby Godzilla attacks!

Last but not least is a video of Eamon walking, giving me kisses and then imitating words that I say.  If you listen closely it sounds like he says "over there" and "yeah" after I say it.

North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher and Southport Ferry

What a cute place to spend a rainy afternoon.  It's small, but the tanks are amazing.  I especially loved the sea horses and jelly fish.  The staff was interactive and nice.  I'd definitely recommend a trip there with the family.

Checking out the box turtle.  I know they say turtles are slow, but that thing really motored!

Getting up close and personal

Serious scientific inquiry into alligator feeding

Huge hermit crab?

Starfish.  He even knows the sign!

Of course when I take the pic there are no fish actually swimming behind them.  Doh

These lucky employees were cleaning the reef with toothbrushes.  The aquarium glass really makes your butt look big

Another blurry, zoomed out photo by your friend, Matthew
(PS - that's my new Didymos Linen size 6 wrap in Marigold. Beautiful, isnt it?)

tiny jellyfish

He loves frogs

Yes, he climbed all the way to the top.

Then on the way back from the aquarium we took the Southport Ferry.  We had to wait 30 minutes in the car to catch it, but the boys had fun.

Maxin' relaxin' in Eamon's car seat

Driving onto the ferry.  Nice beach weather, huh?

So he wears his pajama bottoms as pants.  So what?  Who are you, the pajama police??

over there!

Family shot.  Thank you, kind Ferry Passenger

Oak Island, NC

Beach week photos are here!  For the first time in 5 years (don't quote me on that) Matt was able to spend the whole week with us.  The first couple of days were hairy as both kids weren't feeling good and, well, who doesn't get overstimulated with 18 people in 1 house?  By the end of the week, both were loving all the attention.  Unfortunately the last couple of days were rainy and very windy so we didn't spend time on the beach.  We went to the North Carolina Aquarium in Fort Fisher (I'll post pics on another post) on a rainy Thursday afternoon and then spent most of Friday on the back porch.  It was so much fun, but also exhausting.  Now I understand why my parents never went on vacation... it's a lot of work!

Peter, Eamon and Paul 4 on one of the first days we were there.

Can you catch him?

Play "horsey" with Christopher

This is Matt having fun.  Happy 29th Birthday old man!

Eamon loves the singing, Jack has his eyes on the cake

Just a funny picture of Matt.

What happened?!

This is Michael having fun.  Those Raines boys sure know how to party

Ready for cake!

Uncle Monkey helping E eat cake

Jack and his girl Rachel.

I'm sure she's feeding him cake

Getting in a little early morning Mimi and Poppy time

Lots of uncles and boy cousins

Running to see Poppy.  That's the house in the background. Isn't it beautiful?  The A/C died while we were there and everyone was complaining about it being 80 degrees at night.  Matt - aka The A/C Nazi - makes us keep the air at 78.  Not much difference for me  =)

My new favorite pic!

Grammie & Grandpa with 7 grandsons and 2 great grandsons.  We had to throw the boys in the pic at the last minute.  They were over it.  So were the big boys

aww Godfather and Goddaughter

We are seriously hardcore

Yay Poppy Time

This boy lived on cake, ice cream and hot dogs for the whole week.

I was really going crazy.  Eamon was crying whenever anyone else touched him and Jack was non stop.  I'm about to lose it.

"Give me a cup!"

Eamon and Paul developed a very sweet relationship.  Every morning when E and I would come down the stairs, Eamon would crawl/walk over to Paul and do something to wake him up at the butt crack of dawn.  They became good friends!

Another year of him being obsessed with the cooler

cute pic taken by Uncle Mikey

Mary and Jack on the front upstairs porch.  Isn't the view amazing??

He lived in his pjs

weeeee

He loves his girls

I'm sure he's doing something naughty

A kiss for Daddy

And a kiss for Mimi

And a kiss for me

I love food!!
